A dust storm is likely to cause unsettled conditions in two popular holiday destinations in the , the state weather agency has warned.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET for the Canary Islands) issued a weather update forecasting light calima (dust storms) in and Fuerteventura.

Sharing a forecast for Wednesday, the agency said: “The forecast predicts mostly clear skies, with some morning clouds in the northern areas of mountainous islands. Temperatures are expected to remain steady or decrease slightly.
“Winds will range from moderate to strong from the north-east, with occasional very strong gusts, particularly on the south-east and north-west slopes during the morning hours.”

In Fuerteventura, the air quality is likely to deteriorate, with maximum temperatures around 22C.
The agency stated: “Clear skies with calima throughout the day. Air quality will likely deteriorate in the afternoon. Winds moderate, shifting from north-east to south-east.”
Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands, an archipelago located off the north-west coast of Africa and part of Spain. Known for its stunning beaches, unique volcanic landscapes, and year-round warm climate, it is a popular destination for sun-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts.
It features dramatic volcanic terrains, sandy deserts, and more than 150km (93miles) of coastline with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.

Similarly, Lanzarote would see clear skies with calima, especially in the afternoon. The weather agency stated that PM10 levels may exceed 200 µg/m³, causing very unhealthy air quality. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 20C.
Lanzarote is another gem of the Canary Islands. Located in the Atlantic Ocean off the north-west coast of Africa, it is known for its unique volcanic landscapes, striking beaches, and cultural charm.
The agency stated: “The public are advised to take precautions against the calima, particularly those with respiratory conditions.
“Reduced air quality may pose health risks, and outdoor activities should be limited during peak periods of dust concentration.
“People in coastal areas are urged to exercise caution due to hazardous sea conditions.”
