Asda has made a major change to thousands of essential items in stores, including cheese, coffee and laundry detergent.

has cut the prices of more than 2,500 household staples by 26% on average as part of its ‘Big Jan Price Drop’ initiative.

The apply to a vast array of everyday essentials with Nescafe Classic Original and Decaf, Asda chicken breasts, Cathedral City Mature Cheddar, Dolmio Bolognese and Persil Wonder Wash among the discounted items.

It comes after the supermarket’s income tracker revealed that despite household spending power improving, is still expected to hit household budgets in 2025.

Shoppers can take advantage of the price drops throughout this month both in Asda stores and online. Among the 2,560 products that have been reduced in price are:

  • Cathedral City Cheese 350g – reduced from £3.75 to £2.50

  • McCain Chips 900g – reduced from £3.20 to £1.60

  • Birds Eye Omega Fish Fingers 10pk – reduced from £3.00 to £1.25

  • Nescafe Classic Original 200g – reduced from £4.85 to £3.50

  • Nescafe Classic Decaf 200g – reduced from £4.85 to £3.50

  • Old El Paso Fajita Kit – reduced from £3.80 to £2.50

  • Old El Paso Enchilada Kit – reduced from £3.80 to £2.50

  • Dolmio Bolognese 450g Original – reduced from £2.50 to £1.50

  • Dolmio Bolognese 450g Smooth Tomato – reduced from £2.50 to £1.50

  • Asda Whole Chicken 1.45kg – reduced from £4.95 to £3.80

  • Asda Turkey Mince 500g – reduced from £3.00 to £2.50

  • Asda Salmon Fillets 240g – reduced from £4.50 to £3.00

  • Richmond Sausages 12pk – reduced from £3.60 to £1.75

  • Asda Chicken Mini Fillets 6.54 pkg – reduced from £4.75 to £4.00

  • Pampers Baby Dry Nappies – reduced from £10.00 to £4.00

  • Persil wonder wash (Liquid) – reduced from £7.00 to £3.00

  • Fairy Dishwasher Tablets 42pk – reduced from £12.00 to £6.00

  • Huggies Wipes 12 Multipack – reduced from £11.50 to £5.75

Asda adds that it is also continuing its £1 ‘winter warmer’ meal deal in its cafes throughout January and February.

The offer is aimed at supporting customers aged over 60 during the colder winter months when financial pressures are often a struggle.

Anyone aged 60 and over can enjoy a bowl of hot soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffees for just £1 at 205 Asda cafes across the UK as part of the deal, and more than 400,000 meals have already been enjoyed so far this winter.
