is reportedly embroiled in an argument with his new neighbours over his plans to build a tennis court at his £14.5million 7-bedroom mansion.

The comedian, 63, purchased the property in March last year but undertook some renovation work, so only moved in at the end of last year with partner Jane Fallon.

While the property currently boasts a squash court Ricky’s garden upgrade includes a tennis court, which residents believe will disrupt their “peaceful enjoyment” of their own gardens.

The court is to be used for “one-to-one tennis coaching” only and plans for the grounds also include chopping down nine trees are ripping up three-quarters of the lawn.

However neighbours feel that the new addition to the property will be a noisy one. “If practising a machine firing balls over the net is even more noisy. The players will make noise when speaking or shouting to each other,” one resident told .

They pointed out that the nature of a tennis court mean it can be used for doubles, which means 4 players and more potential disruption.

“From time to time there will be spectators watching, shouting and cheering” they continued.

“There is a seating arrangement alongside our boundary fence for several spectators to be involved with the game. There is no mention of the number of seats.”

“There is no fencing around the court so there is a danger of being hit by a ball which is mishit and lands in our or a neighbour’s garden.

“We will not have peaceful enjoyment of our garden and house whilst the court is in use,” they said.

The fact that the net can be removed has also proved contentious with neighbours. They are worried it could open the space up to other uses such as a football pitch.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Ricky Gervais for comment.

Due to the property’s “conservation area” status, the award winning star had to answer questions about how he would protect the wildlife amid the works.

His planning team had to produce a “biodiversity enhancement plan”. In it he promised to install two bat roost boxes, one bird nest box, a sparrow nest terrace, an insect house and a hedgehog home.

He has already planted nine new trees elsewhere ont he property, and plan to put in four more – to offset the nine being chopped down.
