Brits across the country are only just realising that their windows have a hidden winter and summer setting.

@interiorstyled said: “You’ll see a little notch at nine o’clock. That is the summer setting so how to adjust is with an alan key. Straight up 12 o’clock is neutral and round to three o’clock is the winter setting.

“When you close the window and pull the handle down it’s going to be tighter and therefore it’s now in the winter setting.”

In summer mode, the window sash opens from the top, allowing outside air to enter the room whereas in winter mode the window sash is closed.

The account added: “There appears to be conflicting opinions as to whether it’s a winter setting per se, but essentially the concept is by making minor adjustments to the cams you can retighten the seals and subsequently reduce heat loss.”
