Letters to The Province: Where are the dads?

Re: Poor but tough: How single mothers in B.C. are fighting for economic stability

I read and appreciated the in-depth coverage about single moms being tough, strong, struggling for economic stability with the various government agencies working to assist in their plight.

What I find missing in stories covering single moms is: Where are the dads?

It seems to be accepted by a large percentage of society that is just the way it is. You would think the government would be taking more of an active role putting pressure on dads to do their part.

I understand completely what single moms go through. Sometimes you can just get tired of being tough and strong, but you carry on for the sake of the kids and hope some day justice will take a giant step up.

I’m hoping you might share my comments to a wider audience if only to reinforce the support to other single mothers and their plight in this regard.

Reader thanks fisheries team for courageous work in catching poacher

Re: Notorious B.C. poacher who led authorities on boat chase found guilty of illegal sea cucumber harvest

Your story on poacher Scott Steer really fired me up. I could spew a lot of things, but I’d rather focus on the yeoman-like work carried out by Officer Shaun Tadei and his courageous team. How they were able to use their incredible skills to dive deep, dark waters to retrieve licence and credit cards to help put this guy away is beyond my comprehension, but I can at least express my wholehearted gratitude to them all.
