Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) told CNN on Tuesday that he’s willing to partner with President-elect Donald Trump to strengthen his state. (Watch the video below.)
Host Jake Tapper asked Moore if he planned to adopt a somewhat collaborative approach like Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), or take a more adversarial stance like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
“I’m not the leader of the resistance. I’m the governor of Maryland,” Moore replied. “My job is to make sure that the six and a half million people who call the state of Maryland home are going to be supported, protected, that their freedoms and their rights are going to be honored, and also their hopes and their dreams and their aspirations are going to be invested in and supported.”
“I have been very clear that I will work with anybody who wants to be a good partner inside the work to make sure that Maryland is supported,” he added.
Moore emphasized, however, that his cooperative spirit would only extend so far.
“I am also prepared to make sure… that we will push back when we see those basic rights being violated,” he said.
Newsom has reached out to Trump to visit the Los Angeles fires as the “most powerful person in the United States,” but has also chastised the president-elect for playing politics during the disaster. Trump has made false claims about the situation, blamed Newsom for the massive blazes and called for his resignation. In November, Newsom sought to galvanize new state lawmakers to mount legal resistance to Trump.
Fetterman has broken ranks with many Democrats by criticizing their apprehension over Trump returning to the White House.

“If you’re rooting against the president, you are rooting against the nation,” Fetterman, who recently accepted an invitation from Trump to meet at Mar-a-Lago, said last month. “I’m not ever going to be where I want a president to fail.”
