Sitcom fans have been busy recommending a comedy programme most people are “sleeping on”.
The hilarious stars two Inbetweeners icons, Simon Bird and Joe Thomas, who reunited for the series. Running from 2011 until 2013, the programme is Chickens, originally released on as part of its Comedy Showcase season of pilots.
After the pilot episode proved a hit with fans, the show was commissioned for a six-episode series and was even nominated for the Best Comedy Programme award at the 2014 Broadcast Awards.
Chickens follows three young men in a small English village during WW1, who don’t go off to fight on the front lines – but instead get involved fighting with each other.
Along with the two Inbetweeners stars, Miranda and Bridget Jones star Sally Phillips also makes an appearance, with Saltburn writer Emerald Fennell and star Barry Humphries also popping up in the show.
A Channel 4 comedy is a ‘hidden gem’

Fans have been recommending the programme on , comparing it to hit series Plebs – a sitcom set in Ancient Rome.
One fan said: “There is another comedy series about three young men in a historical setting (First World War) called Chickens. Also it stars one of the brothers from Friday Night Dinner.”
Someone else agreed: “Oh I love Chickens! No-one knows what I’m talking about whenever I speak about it though.”
Channel 4 show Chickens proved a hit with fans
A third viewer said: “I thoroughly loved it. I got the DVDs and watch once or twice a year. I find it hilarious.”
But another viewer argued: “It’s a brilliant (and original, I think, for a sitcom) concept – these shows often are, but it’s just… The Inbetweeners in 1914. I don’t think I laughed once.
“If it wasn’t Simon Bird, I don’t think this would have even got out of the pilot commissioning room.”
