Comedian Bill Burr said Tuesday that he’d bought a helicopter to escape Los Angeles with his family ― but when the time came, his plan went awry. (Watch the video below.)
Host Jimmy Kimmel began his interview with the funnyman by chatting about the wildfires roaring through Los Angeles. Burr, he recalled, had told him he’d gotten his pilot’s license so “in case all hell broke loose in LA, … you could get out of LA.”
“At any moment did you think, ’I’m gonna make a run for the helicopter?” the talk show host asked.
“Well the error in my thought was, I didn’t realize how expensive helicopters were,” Burr, a married father of two, replied. “So all I have is a two-seater, and I didn’t want to have make ‘Sophie’s Choice’ with my family, so we all piled into the SUV like everybody else.”
While Burr, who has a comedy special on Hulu in March, was able to try to make light of the unfolding horror, other celebrities haven’t been as fortunate.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Ricki Lake, Cameron Mathison, Joshua Jackson, Cary Elwes, Mel Gibson and Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have lost their homes in the wildfires, People reported.
The fires have killed at least 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes.
