could miss out on a welcome windfall with Sporting reportedly running out of patience with Marcus Edwards. The winger has been accused of ‘indiscipline’ and was left out of the squad for the League Cup final on Saturday.
Edwards was not part of the squad which lost to Benfica on penalties. Sporting have endured a tough time since the departure of to in November.
The Portuguese champions had a 100 per cent record this season under their former boss but have now lost twice, drawn twice, and sacked Amorim’s replacement Joao Pereira. Edwards has struggled for form amid the upheaval.
According to Portuguese publication , Sporting have ‘had enough’ with the 26-year-old. He has reportedly been accused of indiscipline and ‘several cases of delays’. It is claimed that the club would consider letting him leave this month.
Edwards, who has previous interest from the , is reportedly available for loan. Despite a £50.5million release clause existing in his contract, Sporting are reportedly prepared to sell the former England youth international for £6-8m.
The player’s contract expires in 2026 and there is little sign of a renewal on the horizon.
But such a low fee could have ramifications for his former club Spurs. The north Londoners retain a 35 per cent sell-on clause in Edwards’ contract, entitling them to that percentage of any fee Sporting receive.
Spurs might have hoped that Edwards would attract closer to the figure in his release clause, affording them a much greater sell-on fee. However, the player seems to have little future with his current club.

Edwards was a highly rated star in Spurs’ academy but never made a first-team appearance. That is despite former boss comparing him to Lionel Messi in a book.
Further funds would help Spurs bolster ’s depleted squad. Antonin Kinsky is the club’s only signing of the January transfer window so far.
The goalkeeper was a £14m addition from Sparta Prague and has performed well in his two appearances so far. He received positive reviews following his debut in last week’s 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory over .
Kinsky also played well in Spurs’ 3-0 victory over non-league Tamworth, in which his side were forced into extra-time. It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou will make further signings, with a new forward a possibility.
