January 2025 has certainly been a rollercoaster of conditions, with torrential rain at the start of the year and now freezing temperatures.

These conditions might have you longing for a sunny where you can trade in your winter gear for shorts and sunglasses.

Fortunately, there are numerous winter sun destinations to choose from, and you don’t need to step on a long-haul to reach them.

Marrakesh, bustling city, is an ideal escape from the harsh winter, being less than four hours away by flight.

With up to 340 days of sunshine annually, it’s highly likely you’ll be able to bask in the sun during your stay.

Despite the cooler winter months, this North-African destination still boasts mid-20s temperatures in January, surpassing our summer heat, reports .

Indeed, it’s the perfect climate for exploring the remarkable city, far more comfortable than the scorching heat of July and August when temperatures can reach the late 30s.

Morocco is quickly becoming a favourite among Brits for winter sun, rivalling popular destinations like the Canary Islands and even earning the nickname ‘the new Turkey’ due to its booming tourism industry.

For history enthusiasts, the 19th-century Bahia Palace is a must-see. Known for its stunning decorations, the palace’s walls are adorned with exquisite stuccos, paintings, and mosaics.

Inside, you’ll find gardens, courtyards, and rooms all showcasing traditional Moroccan architecture.
