Liverpool ‘reject £70m bid for Darwin Nunez’ as Reds take massive gamble

have reportedly rejected a £70million bid from Al-Hilal for striker . It is claimed that the Reds are holding out for at least £85million for the divisive Uruguayan and will not enter negotiations until £75m is on the table.

Nunez has split opinion since his £64m transfer from Benfica in 2022. The 25-year-old has struggled to find the net on a regular basis, with some fans concerned over the number of big chances he misses.

Back in December, boss Slot offered a staunch defence of Nunez’s performances and insisted that his forward’s work-rate is just as important as scoring goals. “For me, he has impact,” the Dutchman said.

“If you only look at goals, he hasn’t scored the amount of goals that he wants to score, or we want a number nine to score, but he does have impact in his work-rate. He’s part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning a lot.

“Of course, as a number nine you want to score more goals and that’s definitely what he wants as well. But I’m not only judging on his goals and Darwin on his goals – I also judge them on their work-rate and what they bring to the team.

“The fans support him so much that maybe he wants it too much.”

The report adds that Nunez’s potential exit could speed up a move for £25m forward Stefanos Tzimas. The Greek star is currently on loan at Bundesliga 2 side Nurnberg from PAOK in his homeland.

Tzimas, 19, has scored eight goals in 14 appearances for his loan club this season. Nurnberg have an option to make the deal permanent over the coming weeks, which could reportedly help to accelerate a switch to .
