Apple TV+ has yet to greenlight a third season of Severance, but all signs point to the forthcoming second season wrapping up with an ending that dangles yet more tantalising mysteries at Lumon Industries.
Audiences are on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the second season, which drops this Friday, January 17, making it one of the most eagerly awaited television returns following an almost three-year hiatus since the ground-breaking first season ended in 2022.
The first season’s thrilling conclusion saw Mark S (portrayed by Adam Scott) coming to in his ‘outie’s’ residence, only to find that his wife, whom he’d believed dead, is actually Ms Casey (Dichen Lachman), Lumon’s wellness counsellor.
As well as this revelation, Helly R (Britt Lower) stumbled upon the truth that she is the Lumon CEO’s daughter and Irving B (John Turturro) found his ‘outie’ troubled by disturbing reminiscences of a sinister corridor.
With the shows devotees hungry for revelations about the bizarre severed floor, the cast and showrunners have recently been dropping hints about what to expect from the imminent season finale, as well as hinting at what lies ahead for the series.
Severance stars tease ‘wild’ season 2 finale and make season 3 promise
Entertainment site Collider captured the sentiment elicited by the 2022 seasons climax, encapsulated as: “Holy F, I need season two right now”, reports .
Adam Scott disclosed his wishes for viewers, saying: “I hope they’ll say the exact same thing, ‘Holy F, I need season three’.”
Echos of agreement came from Tramell Tillman, who plays the role of floor supervisor Seth Milchick, and Lower, both suggesting fans can anticipate another wildly unexpected end to this next chapter of Severance.
Dan Erickson, the show’s creator, is hoping for a visceral reaction to the season’s climax:
“I hope that they’ll all race to the bathroom because they will have been holding it the whole time. So, they’ll be like, ‘Get out of the way!'” he joked.
Season two could end with another jaw-dropping cliffhanger
Humorously, Scott chimed in: “So it’s wild peeing, all in unison saying, ‘Holy F, I need season three’.”
As viewers speculate about the next jaw-dropping revelation inside the show’s enigmatic workplace, or what could unfold beyond its walls, director Ben Stiller reveals that gears are already turning for season three.
Stiller told Collider, “It should go as long as the story goes. And that’s something we have an idea of and we’re working towards as we’re starting up our season three work.”
The workplace mystery continues this Friday
Erickson played coy, preferring not to provoke the powers that be, stating: “I don’t want to incur the wrath of my looming overlords.”
Although Scott encouragingly confirmed: “If there was going to be a season three, we all share your wish that it would come sooner than the break between [seasons] one and two.”
Optimism reigns supreme with Apple TV+’s critically lauded series, as further high jinks from the severed ensemble seem set to delight audiences for many more seasons.
Severance season 2 premieres Friday, January 17 on Apple TV+.
