Daisy Midgely (Charlotte Jordan) – joined 2020
The Rovers Return is losing a barmaid in the shape of Daisy Midgeley later this year as actress Charlotte Jordan, is set to depart the soap in explosive scenes set to air later this year.
She issued a statement earlier this month laying out the reasons for her decision.
“My time at is something I’ll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.
“It’s been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.”
Charlotte won the British Soap award for Best Dramatic Performance in 2023 following her work on the acid attack storyline. Her character is currently pregnant and unsure whether the father is Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) or bent copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). It is likely her leaving storyline will have something to do with this.
star Shelley King, who plays Yasmeen Metcalfe in the long running soap became the latest star to announce her departure from the show on Monday this week (January 13). Although the year isn’t even a month old the soap has suffered several casualties as much loved characters have revealed they are waving ta-ra to the cobbles.
New show producer Kate Brooks had hinted at upcoming exits in an interview before Christmas. Speaking to she said: “There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.”
The show has already lost two stars so far this year. Helen Worth, who played when her character got married to Jesses Chadwick (John Thompson) and went to live in France.
Less than a fortnight later teen Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) was murdered by brothers Matty (Seamus McGoff) and Logan Radcliffe (Harry Lowbridge) who stabbed him to death during a fight marking the end of his time on the programme.
The show is also temporarily losng two beloved characters as Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) will go on maternity leave while Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) is taking a year off meaning there will be quite the hole in the cast list. Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) – joined 2011
Colson Smith announced his exit from on January 6, after suffering the ignomy of having . The actor, who came third on in 2024, revealed he was told in Autumn 2024 that he would be written out of the show after 14 years.
He shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, accompanied by an image of himself as Craig. “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025,” he wrote.
“I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy,” he gushed.
Admitting he was excited for the future he concluded: “For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”
Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) – joined 2000

The 61-year-old actress is seemingly keen to explore new ventures, and has already appeared on and become a regualr during her time on the show. She also took time off to tour in the musical Sister Act.
Sue told : “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on .
“The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”
Eileen will remain on our screens until late spring and seemingly won’t be written out permanently meaning this could be more au revoir than a final farewell.
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) – joined 1984
Sue Devaney has played mechanic Kevin Webster’s (Michael le Vell) sister Debbie on and off since 1984 however her next deprture is set to be a permanet one as her character is to be killed off.
She will reportedly depart the show in a storyline that sees her character diagnosed with dementia.
“It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline,” a source told .
Sue, who has yet to issue any official statement, although she is expected to remain on screens for quite some time.
“Sue was very shocked when she discovered she was being killed off. She was initially very sad and then furious and then upset again. It’s taken her a long time to come to terms with it,” a source told The Sun.
Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) – joined 2014
who plays domestic abuse survivor Yasmeen Metcalfe.
The 69-year-old has reportedly already shot her final scenes with her last on-screen appearances slated for March.
While she didn’t issue an official statement a source told The Sun her departure would be a “blow” to the soap.
“This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who’s part of the fabric of . She’s had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she’ll be sorely missed by cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving so she can explore other projects.”
