During his short 50 year life, dominated the box office as ’s antihero of the Sixties and Seventies.

The Oscar-nominated legend was so popular that by 1974, he was the highest-paid movie star in the world.

Known for his spats with directors, producers and his fellow stars, the motor racing actor made less than 30 films but certainly made his impression on movie history.

Now film fans on IMDb have ranked the King of Cool’s Top 10 greatest films and he was actually arrested and jailed while shooting No 1.

This Depression-era drama sees McQueen star as Eric “The Kid” Stoner, an up-and-coming poker player who challenges the best there is. Based on the 1963 novel of the same name, the screenplay was writer and screenwriter Ring Lardner Jr’s first major studio film since the Hollywood blacklisting 18 years prior.

Based on the 1958 novel, this action thriller stars McQueen as an imprisoned thief who is refused parole. His wife then makes a deal with a crooked Texan in return for one last bank robbery. That is before the couple ends up on the run from the law and other criminals on the way to Mexico. A box office hit, McQueen’s on-set affair with his co-star Ali MacGraw saw the two leads married from 1973-78.
