A rescue kitten has tugged at heartstrings after showing off a sweet habit whenever her owner calls her name.
We’re a nation of pet lovers, with many people keen to expand their families to include , , rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises and more. Opening your home to a rescue can be a beautiful, rewarding experience for both the animal owner and the pet.
Some rescue come with tragic stories, so it’s important not to go into ownership without thinking of potential behavioural issues and triggers which they may bring. Some problems require training, while others may simply demand empathy, patience and consistency to manage.
One animal lover, Rachel, has been documenting life with her rescue kitten, Tea, and sharing it to the masses on social media. In one video, which has proved to be extremely popular, Rachel captured Tea’s unique response to hearing her name being called.
The sweet footage shows a medley of different days and occasions where Rachel calls Tea’s name, only for her to immediately respond with a sweet meow, every time.
Over the top of the clip, Rachel penned: “POV: You rescue a kitten and she answers back every time you say her name”. In the caption, she added: “What is she saying?”
The adorable video has resonated with many, garnering more than 4.6million views so far, as well as over 7,100 comments.
One popular comment, which has gained thousands of likes, simply asks: “How can anyone hate cats man”.
Another person surmised: “grey cats are SO smart and the best” while another, mimicking Rachel’s efforts, shared: “Just called my cat..he raised his head..looked at me and continued his sleep”.
One person shared their best guess for what Tea could be communicating with her responses to Rachel’s calls: “She’s saying she loves you or ‘hi mom!’ is my guess”.
In one part of the video, Tea is sleeping but still acknowledges hearing her name. One viewer commented: “She even responds when she’s sleeping”.

Another fan of the video said: “She knows her name, smart girl” while someone else posted: “You’re her world! Keep her safe with you ALWAYS!”
Another person determined: “She most definitely is acknowledging the love and bond you have for one another. She’s such a vocal baby,” to which, original poster Rachel replied: “That’s so sweet to think about. She really loves to chat!”
Somebody else added: “Thank you for rescuing her”. Rachel confirmed: “So happy that I did”.
Before getting a pet, it’s important to do your research. If getting a dog, it’s worth bearing in mind that training is essential, and not all dogs are suitable for first time owners.
