Lorraine left her guests, Jessica Brown Findlay and James McArdle, bemused when she orchestrated a peculiar “surprise” during their interview. The host was in conversation with the leads of the gripping drama Playing Nice when the unexpected incident occurred.
On Monday’s show, the Scottish presenter welcomed ITV stars Jessica and James, who play the central roles of Miles and Lucy in ITV’s PLaying Nice, delving into the chilling tale of two babies switched at birth.
As the compelling four-part series set in Cornwall draws to a close tonight, the pair joined Lorraine to spill the beans on behind-the-scenes secrets. However, they were caught off guard by a strange twist in the middle of their chat.
“Our Lucie Cave is actually live in Cornwall because lots of people want to know where it is filmed,” Lorraine declared cheerfully before asking: “Look at that. Does that bring back lovely memories of gorgeous Cornwall?”
They concurred as Lucie revealed the “surprise” from the frosty Cornish coast. Greeting Lorraine, the broadcaster confessed: “It is a bit chilly, but I’m bracing myself to go into the sea a little bit later on. I’m in Mawgan Porth, which is one of the locations for the series,” reports .

Lorraine introduced a “surprise” mid show
Lucie gestured towards the seaside, remarking: “If you look over there,” as the camera zoomed in: “You can see Miles and Lucy’s house, which at the time of filming was owned by a property developer but has now been sold for several million pounds.”
She then unveiled the “surprise,” bringing on a familiar face to James and Jessica, their well-known surfing instructor.
The stars of the drama were astonished as they introduced the surf guru live on the morning show. Peter Abell appeared full of life, waving excitedly to Lorraine and her guests from the studio.
James and Jessica had no idea what was coming
Peter donned a black wetsuit, braving the chilly Cornwall weather alongside entertainment reporter Lucie, who was similarly attired. Lucie quipped: “The things you have me do, Lorraine.”
She mounted a surfboard to practice before venturing into the icy seawater.
Laughter ensued as Lucie practiced popping up on the board while the instructor optimistically said, “I think you’ll be a pro and take a wave on the first go.” The TV correspondent seemed less sure of her surfing prowess.
Lucie braved the freezing temperatures in Cornwall
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the chat, James and Jessica revealed they knew each other before filming Playing Nice.
At the time, the actress who played Lucy in the drama series had been on maternity leave and was pleased to learn James had landed the other starring role.
She confessed to Lorraine: “We all knew each other before which was nice. I was on maternity leave when the script landed, so I was so relieved to hear that James had got the role of James.”
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV, from 9am.
