has told owners to dig deep into their pockets if they want the fans on their side, as the returning boss eyes a spending spree in the January transfer window.

The Scot agreed to make a emotional return to Goodison Park after . It is his first job back in management since leaving West Ham at the end of last season.

Moyes has replaced Sean Dyche at the helm following his sacking on Thursday, and the 61-year-old could not hide his delight at being back at the helm.

And he wasted no time in urging the club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, to put their money where their mouth is after signing a contract until June 2027.

Specifically, Moyes believes new additions are required to help Everton get the fans back on their side in their final season at their cherished home at Goodison.

“Absolutely. If I can give the supporters something to shout about, bringing in some new players, it’s probably something a manager can do,” Moyes said at his unveiling.

“It’s never that easy, and it’s probably a bit more difficult here because of the situation as well. I need to impress the people, tell them we need them to come and what we’re going to try to do here.

“New players, we want them to be excited about the thought of coming here and playing at a new stadium.

“Overall, I hope we can all get together and find a way of spending a bit of money. As you well know, we have a way to go before clearing everything.”

When asked about the calibre of players he wants in his squad, Moyes replied: “The [new] stadium looks the business. It looks elite and we need some elite players.”

Everton have scored just 15 goals in their 19 games this season – only Southampton have scored fewer with 12 – and their remarkable run of finding the net just twice in their 10 matches has raised alarm bells.

While Moyes didn’t rule out moving for a striker in the coming weeks, the experienced boss is confident that his struggling strikers – including Dominic Calvert-Lewin – can get back to firing on all cylinders.

“I think we all feel that he [Calvert-Lewin] could be the one who could make a big difference,” he said.

“Getting his goal scoring boots back on would be a big help to Evertonians and the manager. We’ll give him as much help as we can.”

Moyes’ first game in charge will see him take on Aston Villa in front of the home fans on Wednesday, before hosting struggling four days later again on Merseyside.
