Only Fools and Horses star shares career update in surprising career move away from acting

star James Buckley, who played the young Del Boy in the comedy-drama Rock & Chips, appeared on yesterday with his wife Clair Meek.

Buckley, who is also well-known for playing Jay Cartwright in the E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners, spoke to ’s about his latest career move as the chef prepared them both some tasty-looking food.

Buckley, 37, and his wife discussed presenting their tongue-in-cheek podcast, In Sickness and in Health.

The hilarious and often-rude audio series hosted by the pair is still relatively new, having only started back in September, 2023.

Talking about the podcast, the married couple admitted that most of the footage probably wasn’t safe to air on morning TV, while Martin assured viewers at home it was “very funny”.

During the interview, Buckley also discussed a surprising career venture which would take him far away from the world of acting.

He admitted: “That’s another thing as well. I’m always looking for something else to do rather than be an actor.”

Martin, 52, asked: “So what’s next on the horizon? What’s been the whackiest one?”

Buckley then revealed: “I was very close to investing into a fleet of cabs. I wanted to get into that. I wanted to get into the taxi game for a little while.

“I thought, if I bought about four or five black cabs, I could rent them out, all you got to do is maintain them and things like that.”

“That’s quite a lot of work though – insurance and stuff like that…” Martin interjected.

“Yeah, but I don’t have to do any actual work,” Buckley insisted. “I don’t have to drive them myself. Although, I do think I’d be a good taxi driver as well.”

Meek then asked him, “Would you charge more because you’re off the telly?”

“No, absolutely not,” he replied as Martin started to laugh.

Yesterday, Martin cooked up a ‘hearty and warming’ beef and ale pie, complete with tender chunks of slow-cooked beef in a rich ale and red wine sauce, all wrapped in golden, flaky puff pastry. He served it with sweet, buttery carrots simmered with star anise.

While Buckley was eyeing up the food before him as Martin assembled the delicious-looking meal, he admitted he “couldn’t wait” to eat it.

Other mouth-watering dishes Martin prepared on the show today included Welsh Rarebit with Bacon & Chutney and his ‘Best Ever Bacon Butty’.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs every Saturday at 9.30am on ITV.
