Macy Gray’s explosive exit from shocked viewers on Saturday night (January 11) – but this wasn’t the first time the star ruffled feathers on the talent show.
The 57-year-old I Try singer was eliminated from the reality show last night after the star-studded judges recognised her distinctive voice.
As Joel Dommett broke the news to the star, she stormed off stage in her costume, leaving the TV host to fill the silence until she returned to the stage moments later.
The star then revealed her identity and gave one final performance before the show ended, which sent tongues wagging online. But her awkward storm out isn’t the first time the American singer caused a commotion on The Masked Singer.
This is Macy’s third time on the musical reality show after previously appearing as Atlantis on the Australian version of the show in 2021, and the Sea Queen in the US version last year.

Although she made it through to the finals in the US, she didn’t have such luck on the Australian version when she was also eliminated early – but she refused to remove her mask when required to do so.
Show judge Dave Hughes (best known as Hughesy) later shared what happened on the Australian radio show 2Day FM’s Morning Crew.
He told listeners: “Macy Gray had such passion for The Masked Singer that when she was told that she had to leave the sow, which you saw last night, she refused to leave the show.
“She said, ‘No, I’m continuing in the show’, an there had to be a discussion which went for quite a while as to, ‘No, you have to leave’. She said, ‘No, I’m not leaving’.
“The thing is, we can’t do the end of the show unless the head comes off.” It comes after reports that the singer was “blindsided” by the judges’ decision on Saturday night to send her packing.

In the comments, his followers couldnt help but joke about how “uncomfortable” the scenes were. After the dramatic scenes hit the airwaves, fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to discuss the moment online.
One user penned: “Obsessed with Macy Gray being fuming about getting voted off… it’s about time we had a bit of drama on this show” as another agreed: “Macy Gray is FEWMIN.”
