opened up about his weight as he revealed that he was previously told that he looks ‘fat’ on TV. During a recent episode of his hit ITV show, the TV chef, 52, was joined by actor James Buckley and his wife Clair Meek. The couple, known for their podcast In Sickness and in Health, were set to enjoy some of James’ classic dishes.
The episode saw James cook blackened rice with squid. This dish combines rich, squid ink-infused rice, tender squid, and a surprise garlic butter centre, all wrapped in crispy breadcrumbs. Served with a roasted red pepper sauce and a dollop of crème fraîche.
While making the sauce, James started off by saying: “So a classic little sauce. You blend it till it is really pura but I like to leave it like that.”
Turning his attention to the consistency of the sauce, James candidly admitted: “The way people describe me.. Chunky. I got told the other day, ‘You don’t look as fat as you do on TV.’”
Everyone burst out laughing as he continued: “And I thought, ‘Oh that’s quite nice.’ I did try to find the complement but, you know.”

It comes as James recently admitted that he does struggle with maintaining his healthy diet as he works, despite an impressive three stone weight loss.
The chef revealed that he used to eat on the go during a hectic schedule that would see him working late into the night. He admitted that he used to “stuff his face” with “really bad things” such as takeaway pizza or chocolate bars.
But he went on to drop from 17st to 14st during his appearance on hit show back in 2005.

Since then it sparked a massive lifestyle change for him and he decided to drastically change his diet as well as keeping fit in his gym at home and walking, regularly racking up 20,000 to 30,000 steps a day .
Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, James said: “Everything’s a balance – certainly as you get older with your diet. You get to 52 and you’re working in the kitchen, you run around the kitchen, [but] you’re not 22 anymore.
“You’re still working the hours, your brain is telling you, but your legs are telling you otherwise.” When it comes to his diet now, and particularly his love of cheese, James says “there’s a happy medium”.
