Dick and Angel knew it was the right time to walk away from Escape to the Chateau
The popular Channel 4 series, Escape to the Chateau, documented the journey of Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree as they painstakingly restored their 19th-century French chateau, Chateau de la Motte-Husson.
Throughout the show, which aired from 2016 to 2022, the couple, who share two young children, Arthur and Dorothy, navigated various challenges amidst their business ventures, including hosting weddings and events. Despite these hurdles, they persevered and successfully transformed their home.
After deciding to conclude the series, Dick and Angel have continued to thrive, embarking on a UK tour titled Forever Home.
Recently, they hinted that while a revival of Escape to the Chateau isn’t ruled out entirely, they felt that ending the show was the right decision at the time.
In an exclusive conversation with Devon Live, Dick revealed: “The thing is, Escape to the Chateau is a year-long project for every season, and Arthur starts senior school, Dorothy is in her last year before she moves, and that change in the children was the rationale.”

He elaborated: “Because we had back in 2022 huge conversations saying, before they get all the pressures that young people have in their lives on them, it was time for us to walk away from the escape. That’s why we did it,” reports .
“We told everybody at the beginning of 2022 because it had to be done. That’s why we have the big party at the end of 2022, literally because it was so, so important that Arthur and Dorothy do the transition into senior school with all the pressure they have with puberty and social media and everything else.”
“And that has been good because for Arthur, I think the pressure has been off for a bit, hasn’t it,” he remarked, turning toward his wife.
Dick Strawbridge said it was the right decision to walk away
“I worry more a bit more about Dorothy, actually,” Angel confessed before concurring with Dick on their decision to quit Escape to the Chateau.
“It was exactly the right decision to make because they had never… since we moved here, they’ve had the cameras here all year round and it was just exactly the right thing to do.
“What we’re not against, we haven’t sort of hid them away from the media. They love it, they’re in the books and they come on tour.”
