Alan Titchmarsh has hit out at ‘rude’ stars after an ‘unbearbable’ experience in a .

Explaining how he was always taught the importance of good manners as a child, admitted that he has been irked in the past by the bahviour of some celebrities.

Chatting to the I paper, the former presenter revealed how he had been less than impressed by some celebrities behaviour towards waiters and waitresses whilst in a restaurant.

The iconic said: “For the most part, the guests on Pebble Mill were also very polite. But there was the odd exception. I’ve been in situations where famous people have been rude to waiters or waitresses and I find that unbearable.”

Explaining his zero tolerance towards impolite guests at the dinner table, he added: “In those situations I will just get up and go.”

Notably not putting a name to any of the ‘unbearable’ celebrities that he encountered during his filming of Pebble Mill, he did recall one occasion in which he sat down with beloved actress Joan Collins.

He said: “People always ask interviewers, ‘What were they REALLY like?’ don’t they? I remember the second time I interviewed Joan Collins, I told her people had asked me what she was like ‘close up’. She thrust her face towards me and said: ‘Well??!’ I said: ‘Very good!’”

Hosting Pebble Mill on the from 1991, Alan would go on to interview an array of high-profile celebrities including Shirley Bassey and Morgan Freeman.

Appearing as the host of the show until it finally came to an end in 1996, Alan would soon take over as the presenter of Gardeners’ World, the show which he is perhaps most well-known for.

But, his big break into the world of broadcasting came two decades before when he was hired as a gardening expert on Radio 4’s You and Yours and The Today Programme.

Fast forward to the present day, Alan currently hosts Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh where he is regularly joined by celebrity guests.

The latest episode of the show will air this morning (Sunday, January 12) on at 9.30am.
