The “most desirable” towns have been named, and in one of them, cost more than £1.4million on average.
The list was compiled by , the newspaper commissioning estate agent Savills to use the latest Census data to choose places that scored the highest across several factors.
These included the proportion of residents holding managerial , their level of , the state of their and the costs of buying a home.
Virginia Water – which was also a filming location for two Harry Potter films – was ranked 11th in the top 50. The town is located in Surrey, not far from .
Woking is to the south, Bracknell to the west. is also close by.

Virginia Water is on the southern edge of Windsor Great Park, which says its two-mile-long lake is a popular destination for families, walkers and wildlife lovers.
The town has a variety of shops and convenient, quick train links into London.
It is also the home of Wentworth Golf Club, and local visitor attractions Virginia Water Lake and Savill Garden.
Visit Surrey also points out that Cabrera Avenue is an area held under trust, and includes a riverside walk and is a natural habitat to a wide range of species.
Virginia Water has been seen by millions of people who have not been there in person due to it being used to represent Hogwarts’ lake in a Harry Potter film.
The protagonist rode over the water on the Hippogriff Buckbeak in the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The scene in the Goblet of Fire that included Hermione passing messages between Harry and Ron after the two characters fell out was also filmed there.

The Telegraph said of the cost of houses in its report: “While the average price is more reflective of the 1920s and 1930s houses near the station, those around the Wentworth golf club – hidden behind electric gates – are considerably higher.”
In 2024, Rightmove said of property price tags in Virginia Water: “House prices in Virginia Water have an overall average of £1,551,999 over the last year.
“The majority of properties sold in Virginia Water during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £2,295,854. Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £724,000, with flats fetching £467,242.
“Overall, the historical sold prices in Virginia Water over the last year were 4% up on the previous year and 25% down on the 2022 peak of £2,062,059.”
