is back, and has rightly taken its place as the ultimate workplace conversation starter – it seems like everyone is watching.
With millions of people tuning in for each episode, the pressure is on to deliver more tension, new catchphrases and major bombshells.
But after a strong start to the series, with Traitor Armani’s surprise banishment giving everyone a strong sense of satisfaction, I’m now finding myself having to force my way through each episode.
I have always enjoyed the show, but three series in, I’m wondering whether the game is bringing out a nasty side to people which is only making uncomfortable viewing.
With people watching the show before they go into the castle, it seems everyone is desperate to be the stand out star and to be the one who catches the Traitor, to the point where things are getting personal.
Watching an increasingly abrasive Livi take on an agitated Freddie, 20, and gaslight him about worrying about the clique forming in the castle, was just frustrating.
The Traitors’ Livi has been sparking backlash with her outbursts
Watching Kas be ostracised and accused with no evidence, other than he could be “saving lives in the day, killing people in the night” left me completely baffled.
The round tables, which have always been my favourite part of the episode, are now becoming frustrating viewing. I’m finding the lack of thought process behind any accusation increasingly annoying, especially when there are such huge clues right in front of their face. Anna has been given the ultimate clue with her letter from the Traitors, which wanted a “strong independent woman”, but she chooses not to mention anything and then keep gunning for the wrong people? Please give me a break.
Earlier this week, I found myself even more annoyed when Kas, who sadly pointed out people were actively avoiding him, had his moment to vindicate himself in his Faithful reveal, was then called out by Joe, who had been hounding him maliciously in the days before, who said it was “smug”. Did he not deserve his own moment after the way he had been treated?
The reaction towards Kas was hard to watch
nowing how the show works, I get that sometimes people chuck out random reasons for thinking someone is a Traitor (does anyone remember the glass raising saga from season one?), but I can’t get on board when it feels like it is getting personal and nasty. Using someone’s job against them is just weird – it has absolutely no bearing on the game.
What’s even more frustrating is, none of their guesses have been right! Linda may be the worst Traitor the show has ever seen, and the only reason she is going under the radar is because the Faithfuls are too busy going after each other with increasingly aggressive tactics.
I know part of the game is seeing nice people like Kas get booted out and clueless people like Linda make her way slowly to the final, but I’m just not finding watching people get relentlessly hounded very entertaining.
Linda has been playing a not so clever game so far
Everyone is not going to be your cup of tea, but I’m finding myself backing Minah more and more each day – the Faithfuls are just getting more and more unlikeable with each episode.
The one thing everyone values above all is a good game player and Minah is certainly that. It is almost comical to watch her pull the strings and plant the seeds each episode and then sit back to let the Faithfuls pull themselves apart with nonsensical guesses.
With two weeks left to go, I’m sure my opinion is going to change, for right now, I’m Team Minah all the way. If anyone has earned the prize money, it is her.
And if the show knows what is good for it, they’ll switch up the rules next year to try and give the team dynamics a much-needed revamp.
