Wetherspoons customers have been left furious after their favourite dish was axed from 40 of the pub’s branches across the country.

The classic 8oz sirloin steak – complete with a soft drink – was available for just £13. For an extra £1.74 customers could enjoy an alcoholic drink.

Pub bosses confirmed the dish has been removed from some menus, but have not yet revealed why.

They did however confirm it is still available in 760 of the chain’s pubs across the United Kingdom.

Fans of the budget pub have been left scratching their heads at the move. drinker Christine said: “Would like to know why on earth Wetherspoons have taken steaks off the menu. Travesty.”

While Craig, who discovered The Samuel Peto in Folkestone, Kent, no longer had the dish, said: “No steaks here either. Evening ruined.”

Phil Mignon said: “Still on the menu at some pubs I checked a few on the app. Some are posh areas.”

He queried: “Might have got too expensive for the price sensitive customers.”

Chris said: “I was told that steak has been replaced by those new fangled burgers. Fuming.”

A Wetherspoon spokesman said: “We can confirm that the company has taken steak off the menu in approximately 40 pubs. It is still available in 760 Wetherspoon pubs.”

Wetherspoon’s classic steak is available from 11.30am daily. The pub chain says it uses prime beef steaks that are traceable from farm to fork on its menus.

It says the steaks are all cooked fresh in the pub rather than being frozen. Customers can order the dish anywhere from pink to well done, or something in between.
