UK weather maps show only 10 cities getting any more snow in January

New weather maps show that the snowy conditions across the country may be ending.

Over the last week, , with some parts hit with as much as 30cm. However, the rest of the month looks set to bring snow to just 10 cities through the remainder of January.

The country is currently , with some areas dipping as low as -16, but according to the , things are set to turn milder this weekend

Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen said, “Temperatures will also be well below freezing across much of the UK, so there is a continued risk of ice overnight and through Friday morning’s rush hour.

“Milder air will attempt to move into the UK from the southwest on Friday morning, heralding the end of this impactful cold spell.

“Increasing cloud and light rain, perhaps preceded by a little snow, will begin to affect northwestern than northern parts of the UK through the weekend.

“Here, temperatures will be back to around average by Sunday, and on Monday, it’ll be much milder, with temperatures reaching double digits in , northern England and Scotland”.

New data from WXCharts shows that just 10 cities across the UK are set for more snow in January, with wintery outbursts confined to the north and Scotland.

Yorkshire will see snowfall on with cities such as , , Ripon, and York set to see around 2cm per hour from midday.

However, the weather looks set to be brief, with weather maps from the following day showing little to no settled snow across the country.

Further north, cities such as Newcastle, , Glasgow, , and Stirling are also likely to experience a brief flurry of snow, which will be largely confined to central and western areas.

long-range forecast for the period is more tempered, as it predicts mild temperatures with wind and rain in some parts.

It said: “Northern parts are more likely to be unsettled but milder. This pattern will likely spread across the whole UK by the end of the period, leading to milder conditions with periods of rain and strong winds more widely.”
