It looks like a lucky person has spun the Wheel of Fortune and landed on true love.
For decades, contestants have been figuring out puzzles on the game show “Wheel of Fortune” in hopes of scoring big — but one solution came with a surprising twist this week, as seen in a behind-the-scenes video released Thursday.
In the video, co-hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White explained that the long-running program is “celebrating milestones in honor of our 50th anniversary.” They then revealed that the boyfriend of former contestant Rhea Mathew had reached out for help in orchestrating a one-of-a-kind engagement proposal. Together with the show’s announcer, Jim Thornton, they “created a bit of a ruse” to pull it off, White said.
The video then cut to footage of Mathew, who thought she was returning to the program to mark its 50th anniversary, solving a puzzle that read “Will You Marry Me?” Her boyfriend, Robin Kuriakose, soon appeared on the stage, got down on one knee and popped the big question. Still in shock, Mathew nodded her head and the two shared a romantic kiss.
“I think she was really surprised,” Seacrest stated after the footage played, while White called the moment “heartwarming.”
“I love that we can do that on this show,” Seacrest added. White chimed in, “You never know what’s going to happen around here.”
Under an Instagram post of the video, Mathew expressed her appreciation to “Wheel of Fortune” for helping with the proposal.
