The New Orleans Police Department released new body camera footage on Friday showing the moment police fatally shot a terror suspect on New Year’s Day.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was killed during a shootout with police in the early hours of Jan. 1 after he drove his truck into a crowd of New Year’s Eve revelers, killing 14 people.

After the attack, Jabbar’s truck came to a stop along Bourbon Street, an area known for its lively bars and celebrations. In the newly released body camera video from officer Luis Robles, multiple officers can be seen surrounding Jabbar’s white truck with their guns drawn.

“Get your hands up,” an officer can be heard shouting at Jabbar. Seconds later, a barrage of bullets is fired. Three of the officers can be seen running from Jabbar’s truck, and two of the officers fall to the ground during the chaotic scene.

“After the officers surrounded the pickup truck, the driver fired at them,” a news release from the NOPD said. “Three officers – Sergeant Nigel Daggs and Officers Christian Beyer and Jacobie Jordan – returned fire. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene.”

“Both officers were transported to the hospital for treatment and later released,” the department’s statement added.

Jabbar, who authorities believe acted alone, was a U.S. citizen and former U.S. Army soldier who officials say was inspired by the Islamic State militant group to carry out the attack. The attack is still being investigated by the FBI.

A spokesperson for the NOPD told HuffPost that no additional body camera footage is expected to be released “at this time.”
