Mould is an unwelcome guest in any cosy and cherished home – not only due to the alarming health hazards it poses, but also its unsightly appearance. However, once it takes hold, it can be incredibly challenging and costly to eradicate completely.

This typically depends on several factors, including the size of the affected area, the type of mould, and how difficult it is to reach.

After exhausting all possible remedies, such as the so-called ‘foolproof’ methods like white vinegar and various sprays, it’s entirely understandable if you feel at your wits’ end.

But there is a solution. A German technique known as Stosslüften or ‘shock ventilation’ has taken social media by storm.

It promises to maintain low humidity levels in your home, thereby reducing the likelihood of mould formation, without costing you a penny.

A video shared on by Which? demonstrates how this is achieved simply by opening all the windows in your house for five minutes twice a day – yes, even in the bitter cold, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Once the five minutes are up and all windows are subsequently closed, this will replace all the warm and damp air in your home with cold, dry air. The moisture that would have been condensing into damp patches on your walls and windows is thus eliminated.

One user commented on the video: “I have done it all my life. As a 70-year-old who just walks around the house, it also gives you some nice fresh air so there’s also no need for chemical air fresheners.”

Another remarked: “I have been doing this for years, it’s amazing! “, while someone replied: “Is this not normal? I even leave my back door open.”
