fans were left up in uproar when Cat Deeley and shared tips to how to stay warm this winter after Labour cut pensioners’ winter fuel payments.
During Wednesday’s visit (January 9) to the studios, the dynamic duo returned to the helm and discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
This included the horrific wildfires that have torn through Los Angeles and Prince Williams sweet message to his wife Kate on her 43rd birthday.
But arguably the biggest topic concerning Brits up and down the country is how to manage the ongoing snow storm which hit the UK over the weekend.
As the country continues to shake off the effects of the plummeting temperatures, the hosts discussed ways in which viewers can stay warmer for longer during the bitter winter months.
Don’t miss…
Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley returned to the helm on This Morning
It didn’t take long before the segment sparked backlash online, with many pointing out that millions of people have had their winter fuel payments slashed this year to boose public finances.
Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – one user fumed: “What a s**t show of country we are when a TV programme has to help the elderly with tips on how to keep warm in this cold weather after has been taken off a lot of pensioners… people going without is sickening to see in England #ThisMorning.”
Another agreed: “What’s happening in LA is awful but I find it hard to sympathise with multi-millionaires losing mansions when there are pensioners over here that are freezing #thismorning.”
A third echoed: “Fair point, love. But those mansions don’t have much charm when they’re underwater, do they? At least us pensioners know how to layer up and make tea last all day.”
Fans shared their disappointment online
A fourth chimed in with: “This is such a patronising segment from smug people who probably have underfloor heating and heated walls (probably) #ThisMorning.”
Meanwhile, a fifth added: “You can’t expect people to have no heating on and with hand and feet warmers on dear lord #thismorning.”
But this wasn’t the first wave of backlash the TV stars faced this week. On Tuesday (January 8), fans were left disappointed by the disappointing instalment of their once-popular morning segment, Spin to Win.
The afternoon game took a turn for the worst when three callers failed to answer their phones in time and the other three participants failed to give the correct answer.
Many viewers called for the segment to be “cancelled” as others noticed the amount of cash prizes has dropped in recent months.
This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
