Sergio Perez was dropped by Red Bull after the season finale
Former F1 team manager Peter Windsor has questioned why would bring back into the sport in 2026. He suggests that the Mexican racer should call time on his open-wheel career and pursue a move into a different motorsport discipline.
Despite signing a multi-year contract extension during the summer, dropped Perez at the end of the 2024 season. The six-time Grand Prix winner failed to record a top-nine finish in his final eight races as the Milton Keynes squad dropped to third in the Constructors’ Championship standings.

This leaves Perez without a drive for 2025, and so far, there have been no concrete links to a seat in any racing series for this year. Fortunately for the former Racing Point and Sauber star, at 34, he has age on his side, and with Cadillac joining the grid in 2026, two new seats will be created.
Discussing the possibility of Checo moving to Cadillac with the Cameron CC YouTube channel, Windsor said: “I hadn’t really thought about it. I don’t think Cadillac would run him, would they? Why would they?

“For a start, they’re going to want an American, I would imagine in one car, and then secondly, they’ll want somebody pretty much of the moment who’s quick and going to bring a lot to the team.
“I can’t imagine Perez would fill that role now, especially if he’s been sort of on the sidelines for a while. I’d like to see him do something like Carrera Panamericana, something really gritty and not something that inevitably will end up going nowhere.”

If Perez does set his sights on a return to F1 with Cadillac, he will need to fight off stiff competition for one of their two seats. As mentioned by Windsor, the American constructor is keen to kickstart their operation with a homegrown driver, and Colton Herta has been widely touted as the frontrunner.
After a chaotic year in the driver market, there is also a significant free-agent pool. Valtteri Bottas, and are all unattached, while Mick Schumacher and may also take an interest in Cadillac’s second seat.
