In the video, former NASA engineer Mark Rober shared the fastest way to demist a windscreen
An engineer who used to work at has shared the fastest possible way for drivers to .
With in parts of the country, many drivers are already dreading the frustration of having to sit in a cold car waiting for the heater to before they can set off.
To help them avoid unnecessarily long waits, former engineer posted a to his YouTube channel that shows the fastest way to clear a windscreen.
He explained: “Number one, turn your heater on full blast. This is because, like we said, hot air can hold more moisture. Number two, turn your air conditioning on.
“This pulls moisture out of the air as the air passes over the cold. It’s kind of like we’re wringing out a towel.”

The engineer recommended turning up the heater and and air conditioning to dry out the humid air
In the video, Mark highlighted that condensation forms when the air inside a car is particularly humid, which typically occurs when the temperature is significantly different inside and outside of the vehicle.
As a result, the fastest way to demist the windows is to remove the humid air from the interior, replacing it with a drier alternative. One of the easiest ways to do this is by turning the air conditioning system on.
Typically used in the summer to cool the temperature down, air conditioning can also help to lower humidity. As a result, with the heater turned up, drivers can quickly warm up the air and remove moisture.

Motorists who do not have air conditioning should roll down the window to get drier air
To make sure the humid air is constantly being replaced, Mark recommended that drivers make sure the air recirculation button is switched off and lower the windows.
He continued: “Number three, make sure the inside air circulation button is off. Winter air is cold and we know it doesn’t hold much moisture. So, if you bring it into the car and then heat it up, it has a lot of absorption capacity.
“Finally, number four, crack your windows down for just a little bit. Now, this might not be possible if it’s freezing cold or raining outside but cracking the windows, even if it’s just for a few seconds, helps by initially exchanging the humid air in your car with the dry air from outside.”
Whilst Mark Rober’s method of demisting the windscreen is one of the quickest around, drivers must still wait until their vehicle’s windows are crystal clear before taking to the roads.
Drivers who fail to clear their windows have much larger blind spots, meaning it could be much more difficult to spot surrounding road users in time, vastly increasing the risk of huge accidents.
As a result, drivers who are caught behind the wheel of a vehicle with an obscured view of the road could face fines of up to £1,000 and three points on their licence.
