Miriam Margolyes’ net worth revealed as star fears ‘running out of money’

‘s Miriam Margolyes has admitted to being “worried” about running out of money to pay for her health needs as she ages despite being worth an impressive sum.

The 83-year-old actress, best known for her roles as Professor Sprout in Harry Potter and Mrs Mingott in The Age of Innocence, revealed her concerns about the future in a recent chat with Radio Times.

She confessed: “I’m worried that I won’t have enough money for carers when I finally get paralysed or whatever it is that’s going to happen to me.

“I’m saving up cash so that I can pay people to look after me and my partner. We don’t have children, so I need to make sure I’m going to be looked after in the way that I’ve become accustomed to.”

The outspoken star, who’s been open about her health struggles, including her diagnosis with spinal stenosis and undergoing heart surgery, also revealed she’s now registered as disabled.

“I can’t walk very well, and I’m registered disabled, so I use all kinds of assistance.” While Miriam’s exact net worth isn’t public, it’s believed to be around £4.5 million, according to online reports.

She’s also made a pretty penny on celebrity greeting site Cameo, revealing she’s earned a staggering £365,000 from personalised video messages.

Miriam charges $170 (£135) per video, which usually lasts around two minutes with options for any topic from advice to a happy birthday message.

“I want to be comfortable and I want them to be properly paid for. It is really because I want to make money though and they pay me to do it,” she added.

When asked if there’s anything she wouldn’t do for money, she said in her famously irreverent style: “I wouldn’t eat s**t. Am I allowed to say that?” Just a couple months ago, the veteran actress has also spoke about preparing for her “last days”.

She said: “So, our plans for our ending together, to be together until we both stop, then we can’t do that and that is really irritating.

“So, we’re working out now, or trying to work out what we do with our last days, because death is the last big thing as I say, and I think we need to prepare for it.”

Just last year, Miriam revealed that she had undergone as she had been fitted with a cow’s aortic valve. Speaking on the Table Manners podcast, she said: “I’ve got a cow’s heart.

“Well, not the whole heart. I’ve had an aortic valve replaced by a cow’s aortic valve.”

Podcast host Jessie Ware asked whether it was a “common” procedure to be fitted with a cow’s aortic valve, before the 83-year-old jokingly quipped: “I think it’s rather refined, actually… I don’t know how common it is, I’d never heard of that operation. But it saves you from having open heart surgery, which would be infinitely more invasive.”
