For the first time, private motorists could soon get behind the wheel of a .

, which specialises in selling vehicles in America, has announced that a 1996 Fleetwood Brougham that was regularly used by former President will be going under the hammer at their Kissimmee auction

On , Mecum Auctions highlighted that it is one of only three made, with the other two owned by the CIA and in the President’s museum respectively.

It explained: “This is the only fully-armored to have made its way into the private sector.

“[It is] one of three fully armored Presidential Limousines built for President Clinton in 1996. Regarding the two remaining cars, one of them was never released by the CIA and the other is in the Clinton museum.”

Said to cost Cadillac a staggering $6 million (£4.78 million), the Fleetwood Brougham was used by President Clinton from 1996 until 2001, yet still only shows 627 miles on the odometer.

Being used by the leader of the free world, it offers a significant level of passenger protection, including armour plating, B6 blastproofing, and three-inch-thick bulletproof glass in the doors.

In the event the vehicle comes under attack, it also features a set of run-flat tyres, on-board oxygen and fire suppression, and an emergy siren and public address system.

However, for peacetime motoring, buyers of the 1996 Cadillac can ride around in comfort, enjoying a number of impressive luxuries for a 28-year-old model.

In additon to the blue leather seats and Zebrano wooden trim, rear occupants can put their feet up and watch movies on the in-built TV and video recorder, providing they still have any VHS tapes.

Nevertheless, whilst Mecum Auctions has yet to reveal an estimate, it is likely that buyers would need particularly deep pockets to put themselves in the history books as the first private motorist to buy a Presidential limo.

Here in the UK, a number of models used by former Prime Ministers have already gone under the hammer, with the most notable being a 1973 Rover P5 used by Margaret Thatcher.

The car Mrs Thatcher used to arrive at 10 Downing Street for the first time after winning the 1979 General Election, the black Rover features a tan leather interior, police radio, and flashing red lights to help it cut through traffic.

Whilst the model sold for significantly more than most pedestrian versions of the Rover P5, built from 1958 to 1973, the winning bidder got behind the wheel of the historic vehicle for £36,000 when it last sold at auction in 2022.
