Flavio Briatore – who is also Doohan’s manager – added fuel to the fire when he told Le Parisien: “The only thing we can be sure of is death. We’ll start the year with Pierre and Jack, I can guarantee that. After that, we’ll see as the season progresses.

“I have to get the team in the right condition to get results, and the driver is the one who has to conclude the work of nearly 1,000 people behind him. Everyone works for just two people. If there’s a driver who isn’t making progress, who isn’t bringing me results, I change him. You can’t be emotional in F1.”

Doohan, therefore, starts his rookie season with mounting pressure on his shoulders. The 21-year-old got a leg up when he replaced Haas-bound for the 2024 finale in Abu Dhabi, giving him valuable experience of a full Grand Prix weekend ahead of his rookie campaign in 2025.

Plenty will be waiting in the wings alongside Colapinto if the Gold Coast-born driver doesn’t perform. Aron showed immense speed in Formula Two in 2024 and is well-regarded by team principal Oliver Oakes, while fellow juniors Victor Martins and Gabriele Mini are highly rated in feeder series circles.
