As a shopping reporter, I spend a good chunk of time dedicated to researching beauty products and trends, whether it’s a bottle of skin-perfecting foundation that’s just gone viral or the latest skin care serum formulated to reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Every year, there’s a batch of real standouts and 2024 was no different. The last 12 months presented hype-worthy goods like Milk Makeup’s jelly water tint that couldn’t seem to stay on the shelves and a unique Korean serum, which went viral on TikTok for its potential to plump the skin.
The year was filled with more than just new product launches, but also formulations that made serious comebacks by becoming popular with our audience — like one insanely well-reviewed drugstore moisturizer or an iconic retinol cream that has been a French pharmacy staple for over 30 years.
We took the time to look back on our 2024 beauty coverage to recall these above-mentioned products (along with several others that we think you should know about) and created the upcoming list of the best beauty products of 2024.

If Embryolisse sounds familiar to you, then you wouldn’t be mistaken because this is far from the first time we’ve mentioned this famous French pharmacy brand’s name and its knack for creating some of the most revered moisturizers on the market. Just like the cult-favorite Lait-Crème Concentré, the newly launched Soin Blush de Peau is a hybrid facial cream that deeply nourishes skin, eliminates dryness or flaky patches and serves as the perfect base for makeup by preventing product from settling into fine lines or separating on the skin.
This 2024 rendition however has the added benefit of perfecting the skin and adding radiance to the complexion thanks to its luminous formula that’s lightly tinted a universal pink shade. And like its predecessors, this glow-inducing cream features skin-softening shea butter, plumping hyaluronic acid and a reviving silk tree extract.
This product by The Ordinary (a brand I use daily) came to my attention towards the very tail end of 2024 on TikTok and, needless to say, I was blown away by its concept potential as a “topical Botox” treatment. This lightweight and water-based serum‘s innovation lies in a 10% concentration of Argireline, a peptide that can inhibit the same protein in the skin that Botox does, essentially preventing the formation of wrinkles in key areas like the forehead and the nasolabial folds, albeit temporarily and only while applied to the skin.
I’ve yet to try this out for myself, but the reviews so far seem to be pretty promising, plus, it won’t set you back any more than $10.
Back in August 2024, I noticed a surge in curiosity surrounding this temporary eye-tightener by Peter Thomas Roth with live-action results that appeared too good to be true. Curious to know how this nondescript cream appeared to lift, firm and visibly smooth under eyes and almost eliminate eye bags, a board-certified dermatologist previously explained that the Instant Firmx contains sodium silicates, which are listed fairly high on the product’s list of ingredients. Sodium silicates form a film on the skin that contracts once it’s dried, essentially pulling loose skin tight.
From what we’ve learned from reviews, the application is key to the product’s success, which you can learn more about from our previous coverage.
CeraVe’s AM daily facial lotion, though not a new product to 2024, was a moisturizer we covered last year, not only because we’re fans of the CeraVe name, but also because it’s a good multi-tasking product that won’t cause breakouts or feel greasy on the skin, according to a HuffPost editor who swears by it.
Aside from the SPF 30 protection, this lightweight moisturizer contains CeraVe’s signature formulation of three essential ceramides, which are necessary for a healthy skin barrier, hydrating hyaluronic acid and antioxidant-rich niacinamide.
Newly launched in 2024, U Beauty’s Resurfacing Flash Peel seems to be a luxury product that deserves to be on your radar if you’re interested in a clinical-esque chemical exfoliator with rapid results. This resurfacing formula contains a stabilized blend of acids and hydrators to reveal a visibly brighter, less textured and cushioned complexion immediately after its first use. The flash peel also claims to boost the skin’s restorative response, thus optimizing its own collagen production process.
If you’ve been around long enough, you would know how personally excited I was to report on the Shark FlexStyle back in 2022. It’s essentially a versatile hair-styling tool that has the potential to rival another well-known hair tool by using similar technology but for nearly half the cost.
The Shark FlexFusion is the most recent 2024 edition of the FlexStyle that, like the OG, features an adjustable-temperature stream of consistent airflow that promises fast drying and styling with minimal heat damage as well as even more attachments that allow you to easily volumize, curl, straighten, dry and cool-shot hair to lock it all in place.
One of the new covetable attachments is the heated ceramic brush that creates lush blowouts while simultaneously drying wet hair. It securely clips onto the Shark’s swivel arm, which offers a 90-degree positioning of the dryer head for easier and less cumbersome styling.
After several praises sung by experts in skin care, tons of positive ratings and some of the most convincing testimonies from people like myself, it was finally time for us to name the original CeraVe Moisturizing Cream as the best moisturizer out there to date, which we did in the middle of last year.
The reasons being are simple: Its accessible price point, its truly all-purpose usage and the foolproof formula containing three essential ceramides that are fundamental for not just hydration, as mentioned earlier, but for helping to maintain a healthy skin barrier. This custard-like cream is rich, non-greasy and fast-absorbing and can help several skin concerns from dryness to fine lines, according to dermatologists. I mean it when I say I’ll never stop using this stuff.
Last year, we reported that this multi-purpose glow balm is a much cheaper alternative to a much pricier and better-known option from Jones Road. This creamy yet ultra-blendable and lightweight formula is packed with effective hydrators like shea butter and castor seed oil to soften skin as it leaves a perfecting and dewy finish and a subtle color. It can be found in five different shades and used on the cheeks, the lips or eyes for a subtle sheen.
A longtime favorite in the natural hair community, Mielle’s rosemary mint scalp and hair oil became 2024-TikTok-famous and is currently Amazon’s second-best seller in the beauty and personal care category. The biotin-infused formula contains nutrient oils including jojoba, grape seed and evening primrose, all of which can address dryness and brittle-feeling hair along with other scalp health factors that can affect hair retention.
You can read some of our previous coverage from the beginning of last year where experts explain some of the science surrounding this product’s hair-growth potential.
This past year the nostalgic sun care brand Vacation launched a new and improved formula of the iconic Orange Gelée sunscreen that, despite its dedicated fan base, met a sudden end in 2019. One of Vacation’s founding partners spoke with HuffPost during the summer to explain how this revamped sun gel, though still tinted that recognizable tangerine shade, now offers adequate sun protection in the form of SPF 30 and features a skin-nourishing base of shea butter, jojoba, soothing maracuja oil and vitamin E, a trusted antioxidant that can protect skin against environmental stressors responsible for premature skin aging.
It’s also worth mentioning that since its launch in 2024, this shine-inducing and deliciously scented sunscreen has sold out several times at a few different retailers.
While researching some of the best moisturizers for mature and aging skin, we came across this fragile skin formula by DerMend, which came with an assuring amount of 5 stars and promising reviews from Amazon. The multi-tasking all-over cream is created specifically for mature skin that’s thin, crepey or prone to damage and bruising. It contains ceramides to help strengthen skin and make it more resilient, retinol to help with loss of firmness, antioxidant-rich niacinamide and glycolic acid, a chemical exfoliant that can help improve the look and feel of skin.
If you’re not always on TikTok, then you might not be familiar with this powerful Korean serum that went viral this year for its use of a unique ingredient not commonly found in American skin care formulations: PDRN. It’s an anti-inflammatory and tissue-repairing proprietary drug that is normally injected to help improve the overall skin appearance and skin firmness of the recipient. The Iope serum uses a plant-derived version of this ingredient to help with everything from volume loss, the appearance of fine lines and even help with acne. Best of all, reviewers say it truly WORKS.
We somehow caught almost all four shades of these delightful little tints in stock (peek Sephora first), which is quite a feat because TikTok managed to sell them out for weeks on end back in 2024. Meant to be worn on both the cheeks and lips, Milk Makeup’s Cooling Water Jelly Tint features a bouncy Jello-like texture and glides on the perfect touch of glassy, buildable color. The hydrating formula is also infused with vegan collagen, soothing aloe and refreshing seawater.
Time and time again, dermatologists have told us that retinoids are an essential ingredient for promoting cellular turnover and stimulating collagen production. A313 is a French pharmacy (and HuffPost) favorite product that we discovered last year thanks to TikTok. The cream contains three different types of retinol, each of them at an effective concentration without being overly irritating. It also features a distinctive texture that’s closer to a hydrating balm.
Dyson has become a household name for more than just vacuums, but also hair tools and this is the brand’s most recent splurge-worthy styling gadget that can actually take hair from wet to fully finished and sleek using only air — no heat damage to speak of. The shine-inducing Airstrait promises to work on all hair types, including tightly coiled tresses, and can even be used to just touch up finished styles.
The Resveratrol-Lift serum from Caudalíe, which experienced a resurgence in popularity during the previous year thanks to TikTok, claims to get its firming and elasticity-boosting power from the antioxidant resveratrol, a plant-based retinol alternative that can protect collagen in the skin. It also contains squalene and vegan collagen, which can work together to visibly firm and lift, as well as another popular hydrator, hyaluronic acid, which draws moisture into the skin.
Tatcha’s dewy skin cream has certainly been around well before this year, but it experienced a renewed level of popularity among readers last month, and, in our opinion, remains a great gift idea for beauty lovers and novices alike. The silky and lavender-hued formula is packed with protective antioxidants, skin-plumping botanical extracts, moisture-promoting hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which are essential for ensuring a healthy skin barrier. I personally love using this under makeup for a really hydrated and radiant canvas and it really does keep my skin feeling plump all day.
