It typically happens as a result of severe incidents such as falls, vehicular accidents, or combat-related events. The NHS describes polytrauma as a critical condition where an individual sustains several injuries that could potentially lead to disability or even be fatal.
The One Direction star died at the age of 31 in October after falling from a third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Payne died of multiple traumas alongside internal and external bleeding. Authorities dismissed the possibility of suicide, believing that Payne was likely in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” when he fell.

His body was discovered in the courtyard of the hotel, with initial reports indicating he had sustained “severe injuries which were incompatible with life”.
A hearing, which was held in Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court on December 17, was told it may take “some time” to ascertain how the singer died.

The hotel’s manager, Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi and Liam’s friend Roger Nores have been charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office previously announced in a statement.

Two others, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz, have been charged with supplying cocaine to the musician.
The inquest into Payne’s death in the UK has been adjourned until a pre-inquest review on November 6, according to the coroner’s court.
The hearing was also told that Payne was formerly identified “with the assistance of the funeral directors in Buckinghamshire”.
Senior Coroner Crispin Butler said during the hearing: “Whilst there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam’s death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that procuring the relevant information to address particularly how Liam came by his death may take some time through the formal channel of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.”
