Car insurance is something all drivers should have, but it’s no secret it can be expensive.

When you’re looking for cover, it’s normal to hunt around for the best deals to suit your wallet. But, according to a guru, there are also simple ways you can haggle your bills down.

A video was recently shared by WhichUK which revealed a “tried and tested script” for bagging cheaper insurance deals. And, with many people looking to save this winter, it may be something you want to try.

According to the expert, it takes just five simple steps to slash money off your bill. If all goes well, you could be on your way to making some great savings.

It may seem simple, but some people have a lot of luck negotiating better deals. You just have to be brave enough to give it a whirl. After all, if it doesn’t work out, you have nothing to lose.

Don’t miss…

In the tutorial video, the presenter pretends to call his insurance company and asks why his car insurance is so much when he’s seen it’s “half the price” somewhere else. He said it’s vital to show you’ve checked for other quotes.

Then, you need to ask to be put through to the renewals department if the conversation goes well. If you get put through to another person, it’s worth repeating you’ve looked at other quotes, and also add in that you’ve been a loyal customer for years, if this applies to you.

If they make an offer, he advises you turn it down at first, as you should “never accept” the first deal they may put forward. As well as this, he noted you need tell them you’re prepared to “walk away” unless they can offer a cheaper price than their competitors.

In some cases, he said using the simple five-step haggling method can help people knock a lot off their bill.

Use our tried-and-tested script to haggle for a cheaper car insurance deal. If you’ve haggled before how much did you save? And have you had success negotiating for a better deal on anything else?

The video has been viewed thousands of times since it was shared and dozens of people commented too. Many admitted they’ve had different experiences with haggling.

One person said: “Mine actually went down this year.” Another wrote: “Great advice, but I imagine when my renewal is up after one year the loyalty aspect won’t fly for me.”

A third replied: “Also, do it a month before and you get it cheaper.” Meanwhile, a fourth wasn’t as impressed, writing: “I just got told that if I felt the deal was better with the other company then to go with them.”
