Southern England is on high alert for by noon today as the issues a yellow warning. This warning remains active until 11:59pm and affects swathes of Southwest England, Southeast England, and parts of Greater .
Chilly temperatures look set to continue with further warnings for ice, along with snow and ice across other regions expiring at midday. High ground areas like Dartmoor and hills across Wiltshire and Somerset may see up to 10cm (nearly four inches) of snow, but a blanket of 2-5cm seems the more likely scenario elsewhere.
Such conditions might lead to disruptions including and isolated communities. Meteorologist Aidan McGivern, in a forecast video on YouTube, cautions: “At midday we’ve got outbreaks of rain pushing into the south, but as those outbreaks of rain mix with the cold air, we’ve got these whites appearing, suggestive of a mix of rain, sleet and snow.”
He adds an important reminder: “When you read the text of the snow warning in the south of England, it mentions widely 2 to 5cm and a risk of 10cm in places but it’s worth reading as well about the likelihood. Now, the warning talks about a low likelihood of significant impacts from those depths of snow.”

The incoming weather system could cause significant disruption, particularly inland where travel delays on roads are likely, with the potential for stranded vehicles and passengers. Rail and air travel may also be impacted with possible delays or cancellations, similar to last week’s widespread snow which saw Bristol Airport suspend operations for several hours on Saturday night, reports
The recorded temperatures plunging to -5.5C in Drumnadrochit, Scottish Highlands and -5.3C in Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, on Tuesday. Ice will continue to pose a hazard today, especially across Northwest England, including Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
A weather warning for ice has been issued, cautioning of icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. The has advised drivers across Northwest England to exercise extra caution during the morning rush hour.
