Incoming boss may want to call on players he has worked with before if the Hammers back him with transfer funds in the January market.

The former and boss has managed a host of top stars since earning his stripes in the dugout. And West Ham are in need of a pick-me-up after sacking with the club 14th in the table and only seven points above the relegation zone, despite spending heavily on summer signings.

Here, Express Sport takes you through four players Potter could look to reunite with before the end of the month…

Ben Chilwell

Potter’s spell at was as unsuccessful as it was brief, but at the London Stadium he could be in a commanding position to rescue two established stars who have been frozen out by .

Chilwell remains firmly on the fringes, having hardly played at all this season. And West Ham need a left-back to compete with Emerson Palmieri and send Aaron Wan-Bissaka back to his favoured right side.

Chilwell, who cost in 2020, is available this month and are desperate to find a buyer, but his pay packet is a massive issue.

Raheem Sterling

Another full-blooded England international with no future at Stamford Bridge, Sterling was sent on loan to during the summer but he has hardly made any impact whatsoever in north London.

Gunners boss doesn’t seem to fancy him at all, with only five starts in all competitions and 11 appearances overall. Sterling is on course to have the worst season of his career.

West Ham could use a new winger to free up the option of using Jarrod Bowen up front. And may wish to recall their signing from the Emirates Stadium if they catch wind that the Hammers are willing to put cash on the table.

Evan Ferguson

The 20-year-old is already a player West Ham chiefs have been keeping a close eye on. Ferguson was beginning to break into the Brighton first team while Potter was still in charge, and he made a barnstorming impression in 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Frustratingly for the youngster, his opportunities have been limited under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, and he has only scored once this campaign. That does not change the fact he is a top prospect, and his standing on the south coast could work to the Hammers’ advantage.

Deniz Undav

Undav’s time working with Potter was short. The manager left to join in the early stages of the same season Undav went on to score eight goals for the Seagulls, before moving on to Stuttgart.

Since landing in the Bundesliga, the 28-year-old striker has been on a scoring spree and earned caps for the senior German national team. He has scored five goals in nine league games this season, and West Ham need a striker in the wake of the serious injury Michail Antonio suffered in a recent car crash.
