Oprah Winfrey throws her weight behind Meghan Markle again as she promotes Netflix show

From giving a of becoming a member of the  plugging to promoting the Duchess’s brand-new show which is set drop next week – Opray Winfrey has become one of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s strongest allies since stepping down as working from the Firm.

On New Years Day Meghan, 43, sent shockwaves around the globe as she returned to socail media following a hiatus. The wife of , 40, shut down her personal and liefstyle blog weeks before it was announced they were set to tie the knot at Windsor Castle in a star-studded ceremony.

The couple then used a joint account called Sussex Royal, which was closed following their decision to step down as senior royals and move to the US. They currently reside with their two young children, , five, and , three, in Montecito, Callifornia.

Following the announcement that Meghan was set to star in her cooking show, America’s sweetheart Oprah, 70, once again showed her full support. The media mogul who founded her own monthly womens magazine “O”, shared her excitment.

She penned to her 3.4 million followers on @Oprahdaily: “We’re about to see more of in 2025! The Duchess of Sussex announced she will have a new cooking show on . Tap the link in our bio to watch the trailer and find out when you can tune in. (It’s sooner than you think!).”

However, it sparked controversy and was met with a frosty response. One user took the comments section and penned: “Thanks for the invite but I will decline thanks, 1 would rather watch paint dry.”

Another questioned her involvment with Meghan: “Oprah what is your involvement with MM? You are so invested in this young woman. What has she done to earn such support from the all-mighty Oprah Winfrey empire? I’m sure there are many underfunded young women entrepreneurs that would love your support and financial backing.”

Meanwhile, a third chimed in: “I’m happy she’s doing her life on her own terms. Just curious, someone who madly wanted privacy and retreating from the world’s eyes opening her IFG account and then a cooking show. Why? Trying to understand her. Imagine Princess Di fighting for her privacy, starting a cooking show on .”

Although others disagreed with critics and a person wrote: “Good for her, it’s not a new gig for her, did it before she married.”

Five years ago Meghan and Harry decided to quit their Royal responsibilities and fled the UK just months after she had given birth to their first child, Prince Archie.

After they first jetted to Canada and then made their way across the pond in 2020, Oprah told TMZ: “I support them 1,000 per cent.”

“Their bond has only strengthened over the years, especially after the Sussexes moved into a $14 million Montecito mansion, just a short distance from Oprah’s own luxurious estate.”

This was followed by that infamous interview, which sparked controversy around the globe. It caused a huge fallout over a series of allegations about life living within the walls of the monarchy and its entourage, which included racism and bullying.

She also promoted in 2021 the coffee brand Meghan invested in and posted the luxurious PR gift she was sent, which came after her children’s book to the Sussex’s firstborn.

Meghan was spotted attending Oprah’s book club session at the new godmother’s bookstore in Summerland, back in September.

Most recently, Oprah gave an insight into their close friendship and revealed that “her neighbour Meghan” had gifted her a body care set for the holiday season, which was shared on her Favourite Things List 2024.

She gushed that the former Suits actress had introduced her to the Tatcha set: “I loved it because it was sent to me by a neighbour, friend actually, . If you were to come in my house right now and film my bath tub, you would see these three things.”
