got a shock call-up to Australia’s Davis Cup squad for their upcoming tie against Sweden.

The former world No. 13 has not represented his country at the team event since 2019 and previously hinted that he may never play the tournament again.

It’s a surprising decision from captain Lleyton Hewitt that comes just days after Kyrgios

Kyrgios recently returned from a two-year injury layoff. He lost his opening singles match in Brisbane but won a round in doubles, and he is already looking to ramp up his comeback.

The 29-year-old is set to represent Australia in their Davis Cup tie against Sweden at the end of the month. It’s a surprise decision from both Kyrgios and team captain Hewitt.

Kyrgios has not played in the tournament in more than five years. The Aussie’s last appearance was in November 2019, during a clash with Belgium, and he has since shown little interest in the event, which is seen as the ‘World Cup’ of men’s tennis.

Three years ago, he said he’d compete for his country if Australians “embraced” him and stopped “criticising”. But he is set to return to face Sweden at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm.
