Oliver Glasner is in danger of losing Marc Guehi this January
are in the market for two players during the January transfer window, with manager Oliver Glasner keen to bring in a left wing-back and a new attacker.
Approaches have already been made in the opening week of the window – albeit unsuccessful ones – and there is plenty of time left for the Eagles to seal the deals they need before the window slams shut.
While the time remaining is a blessing for Glasner, it is also a curse as he scrambles to keep hold of key defender . It could be a long slog towards February if suitors begin to ramp up their interest in the centre-back.
Here, Express Sport takes you through three events which would make up a nightmare January transfer window for Crystal Palace…
Marc Guehi sold on the cheap
The defender, who has started all but one game this season, came within a whisker of signing for United during the summer. Palace slapped down a whopping bid, but with only 18 months remaining on his contract, it is almost an inevitability that he will be sold either this window or at the end of the season unless he extends.
Having moved six months closer to Guehi’s deal expiring, Palace may be forced to accept a lower fee than was offered by the Magpies.
are believed to be seriously weighing up a move for the 24-year-old, who left them in 2021 after making only two senior appearances. Seeing Guehi head back to his former stomping ground would be a bitter pill for the Eagles to swallow.
Crystal Palace have seen a bid rejected for Ben Doak
Loan move cut short
Much of how Palace feel at the end of the month may ultimately depend on . The Blues are interested in Guehi, but if they can’t land him, it is believed they would consider recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park.
The 25-year-old academy graduate has become a regular under Glasner, who plays him on the right side of a back-three with Guehi and Maxence Lacroix. But he could be forced back to Stamford Bridge if decides he needs the numbers.
Second bids fail
If things go to plan for Glasner, the January window will not all be about clinging onto his best players. Palace also need to venture into the market themselves, and they have reportedly seen bids turned down for wingers Ben Doak and El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Doak has been tearing it up on loan at Middlesbrough, and could recall him if their is met. Palace’s initial offer fell well short, while Ipswich Town are also in the hunt, having had a bid turned down.
Palace have also had a bid rejected for Diouf, with Slavia Prague holding out for . The Eagles could go back for more, but it would turn into a nightmare situation if their second proposals were also snubbed.
