David said: “The amazing thing about Elvis is that everybody’s looking for a mystery. So people can’t go up[stairs at Graceland], does that mean he’s alive? So they misspelled Aaron on the grave, ‘Holy cow! He’s alive!’. You know, I mean, wow, to this day, the number one question is, do you think Elvis is alive? He lamented: “The insensitivity of people that don’t understand that he was a real person. Elvis is an icon to most people, but there are some of us that realise he was a person and he made some decisions that cost him his life.”

On what Elvis would have done next had he lived, his stepbrother felt that “in a perfect world”, the singer would have taken two years off after his record-breaking 1973 concert Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite to reinvent himself like Madonna or Michael Jackson.

He shared: “[He could have then] come back out, do another tour, different. Do the songs, maybe do it in the round, like he did in the ’68 special. Have a gospel section [even though his manager Colonel] Parker would say, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” David also thinks Elvis could have done some decent movies, adding: “I mean, when you think about what could have been, Elvis could have done anything he wanted to.” Lastly, on how the King would want to be remembered, he added: “Loving, caring, spiritual, humble and probably most of all, grateful.”
