Dog needs new home after entire family killed in South Korean plane crash

A dog whose family perished in a plane crash in South Korea late last month is searching for a new home.

The dog, named Pudding, lost nine family members when Jeju Air flight 7C2216 veered off the runway after landing at South Korea’s Muan International Airport on Dec. 29.

Of the 175 passengers and six crew members on the flight from Bangkok, Thailand, to South Korea, only two flight attendants survived.

According to Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (Care Korea), the family had travelled to Thailand to celebrate a relative’s birthday.

Care Korea determined that Pudding “was in danger roaming the town without a guardian” and stepped in to care for the dog until a “suitable guardian” could be found.

The organization also shared a video of the pooch roaming the family’s neighbourhood before cutting to show Pudding under the care of the rescue’s staff.

They noted that Pudding had vomited chicken bones and onions which were consumed before the pup came under the organization’s care, the Straits Times reported.

In an update shared on Jan. 2, Care Korea shared more details about Pudding, writing in a translated message that one of its workers received a report about the pup “sitting on the steps in front of the senior centre, watching cars coming and going.”

The worker then got a call from one of the dog’s surviving family members who did not live nearby, giving the organization permission to take in the dog.

Pudding was taken to a vet hospital in Seoul to recover after a Care Korea worker received a call from one of the dog’s surviving family members who did not live nearby, giving the organization permission to take in the dog, according to the outlet.

They also asked if the canine could be put up for adoption to ensure he found a loving new home.

“There are many people who mourn the deceased family and want to help Pudding by adopting him,” the organization shared. “Care will help Pudding find a good adoption home that will love him as much as his deceased family.”
