Kitsilano eatery Aphrodite’s Organic Café is set to close after more than 20 years in business.

The café, located at 3605 West 4th Ave., will permanently shutter on Feb. 2. The news was shared with “heavy hearts” by the team behind the longtime local destination in a post shared to the café’s Instagram.
“After many years of being a beloved destination in Kitsilano, the rising costs of doing business has simply become too much for us to continue,” the social media post shared.
Operations at the business’s other outpost, Aphrodite’s Pie Shop at 3598 West 4th Ave. will continue.
In fact, the other Aphrodite’s operation is set to grow its offering for local pie fans, offering a bittersweet solution for diehard fans of the café’s menu highlights.
“In the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding our pie shop offerings, and adding some of your favourite dishes from the restaurant to the pie shop, all in a convenient setting,” the post reads.
Opened in 2003 by founder Allan Christian, Aphrodite’s was taken over by Christian’s daughter, Peggy Vogler, in 2008. An early adopter of farm-to-table ingredient sourcing and an organic approach, the café was once dubbed “Vancouver’s Best Kept Secret.”
Fans of the eatery took to social media to share their sadness about the pending closure.
“A real gem that will be missed immensely in the community … thankful the Pie Shop continues on!,” a user posted on the closure announcement.
Aphrodite’s Organic Café isn’t the only Vancouver eatery to announce an upcoming closure in the early days of the new year. Ju Restaurant, which opened at 782 Cambie St. in July 2024, will serve its last meals on Jan. 19.
In a post shared to Instagram, the Korean restaurant’s team noted, “It was not a long journey for Ju, but it was enough time to be filled with your warmth and love.”
