BBC Silent Witness fans ‘traumatised’ and ‘can’t watch’ after character is killed off

returned on Tuesday night with the second installment of the new series, and fans were left saying the same thing after a character was killed off.

The new episodes saw Dr. Nikki Alexander (portrayed by Emilia Fox) and Jack Hodgson (David Caves) welcome two fresh faces to their ranks – Maggie Steed and Francesca Mills.

Maggie Steed plays Harriet Maven, the new Head of The Lyell Centre, while Francesca Mills portrays Kit Brooks, a Crime Analyst.

Tuesday’s episode continued with poor Benjamin (played by David Hargreaves) looking for his dear friend Gloria.

The confused pensioner also became the target of a fraudulent scheme, which took a dramatic turn when the culprit tried to kill Benjamin in the most horrific way. However, in heartwrenching scenes, Benjamin ends up killing the culprit, and he goes on to attack a couple that were living in Gloria’s house – although, little did he know that Gloria was dead.

However, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the new series so far, with many finding the scenes involving Benjamin distressing to watch.

Taking to X one fan said: “I don’t think I’ve ever felt so angry at characters on the TV … I feel positively sick at the storyline sick!”

“I can’t watch!! #silentwitness,” another wrote while a third added: “I am finding this more upsetting than some of the violent murders we see in this programme. #SilentWitness.”

On Monday night, fans were also disappointed after realising two main characters were missing from the new series. Viewers were quick to query the whereabouts of Velvy (Alastair Michael) and Gabriel (Aki Omoshaybi).

One fan posted on X: “No Velvey or Gabriel? Not a good start.”

A third added: “No Gabriel, Velvy or Cara is disappointing #silentwitness.” (sic).

Next Monday, another story of the 10-part series will begin. The synopsis reads: “Part one of two. The team is called out to deal with the case of an estate agent who has been viciously bludgeoned to death with a claw hammer.

“They find some unexpected familiar faces waiting for them at the crime scene, and when the murder weapon subsequently goes missing, they find themselves drawn deep into a conspiracy involving local government.”

Silent Witness is available to watch on iPlayer.
