Netflix is preparing to release its new Western, American Primeval, and the cast list has been revealed.
The series, set in the mid-19th Century during the Utah War, follows a mother and son as they escape their past and form a new family, all while navigating the “harsh landscape of freedom and cruelty in the American West.”
Ahead of the show’s release, here’s everything there is to know about the cast.

Isaac Reed – Taylor Kitsch
The character of Isaac Reed, a man at his lowest ebb following the murder of his family, is played by Canadian actor and model Taylor Kitsch.
Known for his roles in Friday Night Lights and True Detective, Kitsch’s character embarks on a self-destructive journey, seeking fights in an attempt to join his deceased wife and son.
Sara Rowell – Betty Gilpin
Actress Betty Gilpin is remembered for her role as Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan in ‘s GLOW.
Gilpin’s other notable roles include parts in Masters of Sex, Nurse Jackie, Gaslit, and most recently, Lina in the Starz drama Three Women.
Sara Rowell, a woman fleeing her violent past with her son Devin, is in search of a guide to navigate the frontier.
Jacob Pratt – Dane DeHaan
Jacob Pratt is a traditional Mormon man journeying from Illinois to Utah to escape the violent persecution faced by Mormons in the East.
DeHaan is a familiar face in the film industry, known for his roles in Oppenheimer, Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, A Cure For Wellness, and ZeroZeroZero.
He also starred in the psychological romance horror series Lsey’s Story and appeared in the crime drama The Staircase in 2022.

Abish – Saura Lightfoot-Leon
Despite the religious convictions of Jacob’s wife Abish, she struggles with the notion of being her husband’s property, particularly as she was coerced into marriage.
Lightfoot-Leon has featured in Life After Life, Hoard, Masters of the Air, and The Agency.
Red Feather – Derek Hinkey
Red Feather is a Shoshone warrior who defends his people against those who threaten his nation.
Hinkey has appeared in Walker: Independence, Django, Americana, and most recently, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One, which was produced by Yellowstone star Kevin Costner.
Two Moons – Shawnee Pourier
Shawnee Pourier plays Two Moons, a character who finds refuge with Sara and her son Devin after escaping her Shoshone village.
Actress Shawnee Pourier, known for her minor roles in Stranger Things (2022) and Dark Winds, as well as a few short films, is part of the cast.

James Wolsey – Joe Tippett
Joe Tippett played Sam Strickland in NBC’s drama Rise and John Ross in HBO’s Mare of Easttown alongside Kate Winslet.
His character Wolsey, the leader of the Nauvoo Legion militia group and a Mormon, decides to retaliate after enduring humiliation and violence from those opposed to Mormons.
Virgil Cutter – Jai Courtney
Australian actor Jai Courtney is recognised for his roles as Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad, Eric in Divergent, and Bob Goodwin in ‘s Kaleidoscope.
Virgil Cutter. Cutter, a bounty hunter and trapper, is determined to amass wealth at any cost.
Brigham Young – Kim Coates
Kim Coates will play Brigham Young, the leader of the Mormon Church. Young is prepared to do whatever necessary to ensure the survival of his followers, even if it involves utilising the violent methods of the Mormon army, the Nauvoo Legion.
The ensemble also includes Preston Mota as Devin Rowell, Irene Bedard as Winter Bird, Nick Hargrove as Cottrell, Lucas Neff as Captain Dellinger, and Shea Whigham as Jim Bridger.
