Iacono was the daughter-in-law of Moreno Gallo, an influential figure on the Calabrian side of the Montreal Mafia before he was killed in Mexico a decade ago.
At about 4:30 p.m. on May 16, 2023, Iacono was driving her car in the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of Montreal, outside of her salon near Jean-Talon and de la Savane Sts., according to police and previous reporting from The Gazette.
While her car was moving, she was suddenly shot and her vehicle struck a building. Witnesses saw a suspect flee the scene. Iacono was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
The suspects, age 28 and 31, were detained Friday morning, according to police. They were expected to appear at the Montreal courthouse Friday and will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
