If your current television is in dire need of an update, is about to offer up a tempting reason to switch things up and try something new. The Korean technology firm has just announced its next generation of TVs – including its flagship Neo QLED 8K QN990F – at CES in Las Vegas. They will arrive in the UK later this year and come packed with smart technology that aims to make them more than just a device for a quick binge or the next episode of .

The smart boost will be driven by something called Samsung Vision AI, which can perform a wide range of clever tasks.

For example, if you are not sure who or what is currently on the screen—such as an actor or movie—you can simply Click to Search with the TV, which will offer up information without disrupting your viewing. This intelligence will also offer instant live translation without needing to dig into the settings for subtitles.

If you’re bored of seeing a big black screen sitting in the corner of your living room, AI can instantly create unique and bespoke wallpapers to help your TV blend into your surroundings. Just give a description of what you’d like shown on the screen, such as a sunset over a lake, and it will do the rest.

It can link up to other smart devices to show the real-time health of your home and alert you if it spots something wrong. There’s even the option to watch over your family or pets with Samsung saying its new TVs are so smart they can automatically dim lights if you happen to fall asleep in front of the telly.

Another new addition to its latest goggleboxes is access to Microsoft’s new Copilot service. This will enable you to seamlessly search for relevant information about on-screen content using the remote control or voice commands. Copilot services will also offer personalised content recommendations with everything accessible through the screen.

Of course, this is a television, so you’ll want epic visuals when watching a movie. Luckily, the latest models should have that covered, offering better upscaling that ensures content looks as pin-sharp as possible.

Other cinema-style upgrades include Adaptive Sound Pro for better audio, Color Booster Pro which analyses scenes to make everything sing.

Finally, a new design makes things look even slimmer and more premium than before.

“Samsung sees TVs not as one-directional devices for passive consumption but as interactive, intelligent partners that adapt to your needs,” said SW Yong, President and Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With Samsung Vision AI, we’re reimagining what screens can do, connecting entertainment, personalisation, and lifestyle solutions into one seamless experience to simplify your life.”

There’s no word on a price or release date just yet but expect more news in the coming weeks and months.
